The Complete Tool Dictionary

Annotation is the core of the editor, but it's not only annotation — selecting, viewing, cropping and arranging are what make editing complete. The interactive editor above is the main stage; to see every tool at once, expand the index below.

Overlay Image: take one from Screenshot History Tauri only

When you are collaging, the image you want to drop in is rarely an old file — it is usually another capture from a few minutes ago, or from yesterday. So with the editor open, Overlay Image (⇧ O) no longer opens the file dialog; it opens Screenshot History.

  • Click any tile on the thumbnail wall and that image is laid onto the current canvas as an object you can drag and scale; the history closes behind it.
  • For a file on your Mac, use the button at the top right of the history — that is the original file dialog. A line of grey text under the header always tells you which mode you opened it in.
  • While the editor is open, a history opened from the menu bar or with ⌥ ⌘ G is in pick mode too — you already have an image under your hands, so opening the history now is not about replacing the base image but about finding something to lay on top. With the editor closed, clicking a tile opens that image in the editor instead.
  • A pixel canvas has no history (that canvas takes no overlays); pressing it plays a sound to tell you, rather than opening a window where clicking does nothing.

Alchemy Recipes

VAS breaks its tools down into small pieces. Each one does a single thing — but properties can stack.

  • Text × background color → Highlighter
  • Text × transparent + border → Outlined text
  • Rectangle × dashed + thickness → Reviewer's red circle
  • Line × right-angle + dashed → Flow connector
  • Fill × gradient + low opacity → Fade mask
  • Callout bubble × mosaic → Comic-style meme

The recipes you combine become your own vocabulary of expression.

Tauri onlyCustom Styles · Save your recipes

A recipe doesn't have to live in just this one screenshot. The moment you dial in the perfect one — tuck it into your cabinet, and next time a single right-click brings it back.

  • Add — right-click a tuned annotation and choose "Save as Custom Style". One click saves it, auto-named "Style X". It doesn't interrupt your flow; you can decide what to call it later.
  • Apply — right-click any existing annotation on the canvas to apply a saved style directly.
  • Replace — the other way around: tune the current annotation on the canvas until you're happy, then overwrite a saved style directly. This is how you change a style's contents — no separate editor, just tune and replace, letting your recipes evolve with you.
  • Edit — in the Custom Styles dropdown choose "Edit styles", which keeps only rename and delete, to tidy your cabinet.
